Which is #1 post on a military distributor?

Before removing the spark plug wires, I carefully marked them on the distributor cap, then proceeded to clean and paint the cap. I thought the TM had a picture of which ones go where, but all it has is a picture that shows the sequence (1,5,3,6,2,4) but not which is the #1 position. Of course the head is back on the engine too at this point. Anyway, can somebody with an M37 please tell me which post is #1?
