So far I've grenaded three of the Superwinch hubs. However, I'm also "locked up" front and rear, and the main purpose of my truck is to traverse the back country with other 4x4 enthusiasts. I think what kills these hubs is the design where the collar that slips over the stub rides when the hubs are unlocked. The friction between the mating surfaces (stationary stubshaft collar, and spinning splined piece attached to the hub body)wears causing sloppiness, allowing uneven loading of the splined piece,(when engaged) which either breaks the collar or strips the splines off, when thier loaded hard. Hard to explain, but if you've had one apart very far you probably understand. Anyway I've had a little better luck by taking the outer hub body off and lubing those "bearing" surfaces with a light grease (engine assembly grease is what I use, heavy grease makes them fickle about engaging in sub-zero temps). In thier defense though they haven't balked at giving me a new set when I sent them what was left of the old ones. V8 power may send me looking for something else though (I haven't REALLY!! used it yet). I also keep a set of drive flanges in the tool box!!
