Sounds like Ken has the solution. I think that on a newer vehicle with a voltmeter in the dash then power is shut off to the alt when the key is off. since this is a conversion, with a ampmeter that has power all the time , Ken is right. my system works because I have an external voltage regulator, yours is built in.
