It sounds like your going to leave the engine in the truck. Make sure you remove all carbon from pistons, block, head, values before reassembly.

Ring Choice - Perfect Circle or Power Seal chrome rings. Place gap of oil ring parallel to piston pin for max oil control, stagger all other ring gaps 120 degrees. Use an old ring to clean carbon out of piston groves. After honing wash with soap and water.

Valve Lapping - If I were doing it, I would have a machinist make a house call, knurl the guides, and regrind the valve seats, and regrind your valves. If money is an issue, then lap the valves until at least a 1/16th seal around seat and valve. Wash with soap and water.

Place a towel on crank journal below cylinder when washing to keep it clean. Most honing residue will be picked up if using a good cotton towel

Use plastic gauge and .001 and .002 brass shim stock to adjust rod and main bearings to specs.

Use 50% oil and STP mixture for lubrication during piston and rod bearing assembly.

Take your time!
