I always carty a can of starting fluid. If you spray them, it will either make them happy and fly off for a 3 day drunk if you catch them in flight or it will cook them if you can soak them with it. Make sure you aren't smoking and then spray some in the vent tube. It'll also help the truck start easier.

A side note, if you spray a cotton swab with starting fluid and rub it on a tick, they release right away.
