OK, now we're on to something.

How do I tell if I have a steel or iron crank w/o tearing the engine down?

I'm still at a loss to figure out why the pulleys overlap so badly from one 318 to another. I can understand the grooves not lining up, but overlapping?

Wouldn't you know it, the small water pump pulley fits. Trouble is, you are right about cavitation, and I'll be running this engine sustained at around 3400-3500 rpm.

What I really need is a double groove small crank pulley, and a single or double large water pump pulley.

Oh well, back to the drawing board.
