You can drive it on the front axle alone real well. Pull the rear driveshaft completely, and both rear axles, then stuff the ends of the axle housing inside of the bearings with a folded rag wrapped around a block of wood that you whittle to fit. Be sure that the rag is clear of the wheel hub, so it doesen't get tangled up in it; I used to trim off the excess rag with a knife. The wheel will turn just fine, but the (pig) pumpkin won't turn at all. You have to remember, though, to go easy on the front axle; at least I always did. I've driven numerous trucks this way for as much as 100 miles without any problems.
