Will an NP435 will mate to a 230? I'm sure given time, effort and cash, it will. I would guess that it needs an adaptor plate, since the bolt patterns are different. The input shaft of the 435 is longer than the NP420, so that's a plus - probably would work out just fine with a thick enough adaptor plate using the original bellhousing and clutch/pressure plate. You need to get a collection of parts and play with them.

Helitool has a conversion kit to put a 318/360 with an NP435 in a WDX/WM300. You can see the complete install instructions and photos at:

I nixed going with an NP435 for my 318 conversion in my M37 because of the difficulty of finding an N435 with a PTO access on the left side, and the scarcity of NP435 PTO's themselves. That's the real fly in the ointment of what you're trying to do. I would suggest making sure your PTO opening is on the proper side, and obtain a PTO before proceeding. Other options here include going to a hydraulic PTO. Spendy, but it wouldn't matter which side it ran from. They don't stall, which is good and bad. They just pull until they bust something.

If you do mate one, I'm sure many would be interested in seeing the pics.
