I'll believe you that you made some swap/mistake, but pumps are designed to limit out at a certain pressure, not a flow rate. Think about it; when the truck's idling, the pump is essentially pumping into a very tiny pipe, the almost-closed float valve in the carburetor. If your theory about pipe size was right, the pressure would climb through the roof. Instead, if all's working as it should, the pressure at the carb inlet stays constant whether you have the throttle wide open or fully closed. The difference in restriction between 5/16 and 3/8 tubing or fittings is nothing compared to the resistance of a nearly-closed float valve. But we can agree to disagree.
