As Keith mentioned, make sure you go to TDC on compression stroke on number one cylinder. Check to see which cap wire terminal rotor is pointing to. Make that the number one plug wire and wire 153624 in that order if my memory serves me right. Doesn't matter which cap terminal is used for the number one wire. The standard rotor position is 7 O'Clock. 7 O'Clock is used only as a standard, nothing else.

If the rotor is not directly pointing to a terminal, unlock the dist. and rotate it till it does, and relock. If the engine starts and runs ok, time to BTDC requirement for engine. But since you unstuck valves and if you didn't resurface valve/seats, the engine could run rough backfiring or missing producing similar symptoms.
