I am nearing the end of my 1952 resto so have experienced some of the same issues with sheet metal, as my truck was a northeastern "rust belt" truck with A LOT of rust through.
The truck's frame and engine/drivetrain were o.k., however.
Good cabs are not too hard to find, and can be swapped. You can also buy a repro tailgate from a supplier (I believe it is listed in the archives). Mine is one of these nice repros with the dodge script.
VPW had some good front fenders a few years ago, I got mine from them. One was NOS and one was used but in very good condition.
My original front and rear fenders would have been very costly and difficult to rebuild as the rust through was mainly on the outer radii; they would have needed an english wheel to be done, imho.
The hardest things to find are the rear fenders and bed.
I got my two NOS rear fenders from John Smith and Dennis Sherman respectively.
I rebuilt my 2nd series bed; they are hard to find and I decided to rebuild mine by welding in new metal in the wheel wells as wells as a lot of metal finishing. It took time but turned out very well.
You might consider the same for your 3rd series, since no one is yet making repro 2nd or 3rd series beds.
