Synthetic is good, just be sure it is rated NLGI 2. However, before I would switch, I would research what thickener is used in the synthetic grease, since grease thickeners may do bad things if they are ever mixed with a different type. I say this because it sounds like you will end up with a truck using two different and perhaps incompatible types of grease. That could lead to problems down the road if you weren't careful, or be inconvenient at least.
Since my truck is being built up from scratch, I switched to a synthetic grease that uses a calcium sulfonate thickener. This thickener is not compatible with lithium (the thickener found in most typical greases), but since I am using only this brand of grease on my truck, and have a grease gun dedicated for truck use only, I shouldn't have any problems.
