Tim, I am fire chief in an area where floods are our major concern. We get 5 to 8 per year that cut our area into 7 islands. We have a 5-ton Kiser with 700 gallons of water on it. Our rule is, if the front bumper hits the water, we dont go. These rivers are swift. If my PW has a thousand pounds in the bed, I use the same rule. It is important to know your flood criteria. Our bridges are normal low water crossings. If the flood isn’t powerful enough to clean off the slime, then use a lower threshold. If the cattails end up on the bridge it will be slicker. As far as the beavers and cattails are concerned, I’d store more food and tequila and sit by the creek and watch until it goes down. What ever happens please dont get caught in the creek.
