In a larger town with a couple of upholstery suppliers, I could buy "waterproof backer board". It's a black cardboard stuff. Cut a pattern, cut the parts, spray on "High Temp Adhesive" from the upholstery supplier, stick on the vinyl, in a color to match the rest of the interior. You only need to fold the vinyl over the edge where the edge will show. Do that instead of the sewn on edge tape the factory used.

I learned about the hi-temp goo the hard way, had to do it over when it sagged in the summer heat.

I think Willy N had patterns for sale.
