Thinking of old machinery still working, I've seen an old dragline shovel working a flooded gravel pit along I-5 somewhere near Centralia recently. Digging in flooded pits is probably the only place draglines are better than modern loaders, excavators, and backhoes. Here in North Idaho they take the old draglines and convert them into "jammers" for logging, generally by putting a lot more cable on them so they can reach down the hill a long way. Never saw a jammer on the coast. There they went from spar trees to "power towers" (Skagit yarders) for logging the old growth, and now are pretty much just using faller/bunchers or rubber-tired skidders for the little sticks of second-growth. Here the hills are too steep for that.
