Thanks Clint your photo is exactly what I have.
A spring was placed over the threaded portion of the bolt. My guess is to force the 1010 filter downward in the canister. According to the dimensions of the sock filter the 1010 filter is at least 1 1/2 inches shorter than the sock. One thing to note the 1010 is a bypass filter although the center hole is not correctly bushed for the tube in the canister. I have also found that at some point there was a cartridge filter that was used. I wonder what the dimensions of that filter was? That would be great reference. I attached a link to a photo I found that may be of interest.
