For years, I have gone to the NAPA store and asked for the "Military Junior" filter for my WC52, WDX, and M37. I always received a NAPA 1100. WIX and CARQUEST gave me the same filter with their equivalent part numbers.

Recently there have been some discussions concerning the correct oil filter cartridge for these trucks. I went to my local NAPA and CARQUEST stores and found out the following information.

In addition to their own brand, WIX produces the oil filters for NAPA, CARQUEST, and others.

The filter shown in the store computer had the right numbers, but the wrong picture and dimensions. The filters shown in the store computers were like a ball of twine. The opening at the bottom was huge and did not slide onto the perforated pipe that collected the filtered oil inside the filter canister.

I called the NAPA main distribution center in Georgia. The person I spoke to looked up the 1100 and found that the correct one was pictured in their master data base.

He surmised that recent catalog data updates sent to the NAPA retail stores had an error. Because there was the same data error at the CARQUEST retail store, he suggested that the error probably was initiated by WIX when they sent out their updated data discs to the various chains for which they manufacture these filters.

I spent several days going back and forth between my NAPA and my CARQUEST retailers. This error seems to have been resolved.

NAPA has the correct filter in the boxes on their shelves. The same correct filter at CARQUEST is Part Number 58100.

One word of caution, however... the gasket that is furnished is too large in diameter and you have to reuse the one that fits the cover of your oil filter housing.

When I do my next oil change, I will measure the gasket since the gaskets are available separately in the NAPA catalog. That's a part number I used to have, but cannot find.

The link below takes you to the NAPA on-line catalog for oil filter 1100. Click on that page for filter pictures and specifications. You can also enter the 1010 filter and see its picture and specifications.
