Drive your vehicle into a ditch where the bank of the ditch has a 45 degree incline down and then when you reach the bottom you have a 45 degree incline up. The angle at the bottom of that "V" is 90 degrees.
This is a common situation that most of us have faced and found our front bumpers stopping us completely. I know I don't even have to show you a picture of my WC52 standing on the front bumper at the bottom of a ditch that was not even close to having the 90 degree angle for you to understand.
Remember - the WC 52 has the long front frame for mounting the winch.
TM 9-808 lists the approach angle for the WC51 (without winch) as 54 degrees and 37 degrees for the WC52 (with winch). That means my front bumper will hang up if I try to cross a ditch with a down incline of 19 degrees if it the down incline meets an up incline of 19 degrees.
