If I found a good 8' bed, I would cut out the fender wells 2" obliquely, and swap from side to side, and weld back in. That would leave the bed full length, and FFPW wood and strips ought to fit- if it were done well. Probably less work than my current bed, which needed six patches welded into each side, plus pipes welded on to replace the top rails of the bed, plus all strips replaced. But it come out well enough that I wouldn't hesitate to modify a non-FFPW bed. I saw one in a junk yard a couple months ago, and thought of doing it on spec, then trying to sell for a profit. But I was too lazy to pull the bed from the junker sweptline.
