My ancestors arrived at Galveston in 1843 with 4 small children and a baby born at sea, after a 75 day trip from France (Alsace~Lorraine).
Upon arrival, they made the long trek and stayed at the ruins of the Alamo just 7 years after it fell.
They proceeded on to settle Castroville, where the (unwritten) Alsatian language is still spoken.
