You will need the NP420 PTO as the gears are different.

I just put together the NP420 trans and PTO from a M37. I actually used a M37 Trans case and took all the internals from a ff PW NP240 and a M37 PTO. I need to install it now. If I ever get the time. I have been gone a lot lately.

In my ff PW with the crash box I always use ear plugs. Yest is is the nature of the crash box trans to be noisy. Most of them get really noisy especially in 3rd gear. Most are not too noisy in 4th. 3rd is usually the worst. I hope it will be a lot quiter when I put in the NP420.

It would help a lot to put in noise dampening pads. Put them under the floor boards and the transmission hump sheet metal. Also get under the seat. In fact put it on all the sheet metal. I did on my carryall and it really reduced the noise. The best thing I did was to put 3/8 rubber mats on the floor and transmission hump (do not forget under the seat). That made my carryall drivable without ear plus. It made a huge difference.
