And it does take some effort, as you have to remove the outer bezel and glass, then the whole old pointer has to be removed from the speedometer guts. Once that is done you have to take apart the center to remove the old plastic, and then rebuild it with the new plastic.

The choice as I see it is either pay $300-$500 to have it rebuilt by a professional shop, or pay $12 for the disk and do the work yourself.

If you take your time, and work carefully it is no harder than any other rebuilding project on these trucks. It is just takes a little more finesse then rebuilding steering knuckles, as the parts are weaker.
