The machine work is usually to the same specs as the factory. Check it all with both mics and plastigauge. But many are just not clean enough from the machine shop.

Any that were assembled by a rebuilder, that I subsequently tore down, had scratches allover. So I started assembling my own. Step one, mix up a batch of laundry soap, and scrub the whole thing allover, using bore brushes in all the galleys and bolt holes. Lots of garden hose and compressed air, it has to be CLEAN. A little surface rust is nothing compared to the grits washed into everywhere by the jetter.

Then use cam lube only at the cam/lifter, but liberally pour motor oil allover as the major assembly lube. Usually takes most of a quart.

I know for a fact that a couple of my motors made 150k to 200k miles in heavily-used 3/4t trucks.
