This reminds me of a discussion I got into with someone years ago about PTOs. They claimed all Power Wagons of all styles had the PTO on the transmission, and they would not accept any proof that the 1957-71 W100-W300 got the PTO on the transfer case. I took pictures of actual trucks, scanned in pages from parts books, etc, etc, etc.

Their proof?? That the service manual only described the PTO on the transmission. They were right, sort of. I checked a bunch of 60s books (the era we were talking about), and found that the only PTO described under the heading "PTO" was the one for the W500 that was attached to the transmission. The NP201 or NP 205 transfer case mounted PTO (like on your W300) was only mentioned deep in the text about the NP201 for example. All it says was something like "If equipped with PTO please remove for th next step. For some reason there was not a complete breakdown in the service manual of the NP420 PTO for the WM300 or the NP201 PTO for the W100-W300. I do not know why Dodge did not provide more information about all the different PTOs, but they didn't.

That was the "proof" I was fighting, and no real trucks or scans of diagrams from parts books would change their mind.

I have worked pretty hard to help John understand what is Factory, and what is something Farmer John or Fire Fighter Bill did. I am waiting for his proof now.

Eric
