Balancing balancing, and running modern aluminum cast pistons takes some of the load off the rod. Teh original stock pistons are a very heavy Bohnalite? steel blend with tin plating. much heavier than modern aluminum pistons. So Aluminum reduces the mass swinging around. I fyou have any manuals with a cutaway view of the 230 look at the pin journal of the rods and you will dee the offfset. b An old friend said he used to race a 230 powered 49 Dodge car and got it in the 14s. He said if he missed a shift it would rip a piston in half!!
