I've got an unmolested 1953 M37 with a 24 volt foot plunger starter drive. In all my years of prowling around M37's, I've never seen a stock "as-issued" M37 set up any other way. My set-up also corresponds with the manual. I've never had any trouble with the system. I did convert to a 24v fuel pump and have never looked back.
