The 7/16" studs should stay tight in the hubs because the studs a bigger than bolts would be. The studs will stay tighter under the torque of the axle.

Then, they use a thicker 3/8" fine nut. New lock washers ought to help the nuts stay tight. New gaskets sealed on both sides will help. I'm not sure if thicker is better or not. Thicker = more squishier, and will tend to loosen more? Or jusrt use some silicone with no gasket. That, plus an occasional walk around with a 9/16" wrench ought to prevent leakage.
