Dana,
I followed Paul's advice and checked out what my local welding supply said, especially what they support, and what has a good track record.
The salesman had more expensive Miller machines there, but he said for my use...mostly hobby/home workshop, he recommended ESAB. He said they were a very good value for the price. THey are made in Sweden.
I bought a new ESAB 220 volt Mig welder from the dealer, and an ESAB plasma cutter on Ebay (used).
Both have performed very well, and are well supported here for parts, but frankly I have had no issues except for wire, and the plasma consumables of course.
My local welding shop has been really selling a lot of them for some time now.
