I would think the main difference is VPW is selling NOS or used if you needed one or two. Whereas a spring shop is going to be building a leaf or pack from new material. VPW are great folks and easy to deal with, but, and this strictly off the cuff - I would think that perhaps there has been some improvement in steel technology since the original ones were made. Also with a spring shop you can get a custom arch if you want. Just my two rubles worth!
