I asked the question about water pump grease a year or so ago. You might check the archives for an answer. I think you need something stiffer than #2. You might ask a real petroleum jobber, rather than just an auto parts store, for a recommendation. They have all kinds of specialty oils and greases you don't find most places. I got some stuff that's supposed to be water-resistant that I use on the Tucker track rollers. I might just use that in my water pump grease cups.

As for the air cleaner, I think any relatively light cheap oil is fine. Some of my old equipment manuals for Cat and John Deere say to use the cheapest grade of 10 or 30 weight motor oil. There's no need for good oil because it doesn't need to lubricate. I know a lot of people used to just put their used engine oil in the air cleaner. The main thing with an oil bath air cleaner is to check it now and then and replace the oil if it's getting thick or the level has increased, both of which indicate it's full of dirt. Rinse the bowl and element out with kerosene. One of my manuals warns against steam-cleaning the element because the steam will make little dirt balls that are difficult to remove.
