As stated above both non-syncro ("Before" and "After") use the same bell housing. The synchro NP 420 transmission that was used in the ffPW has a different bolt pattern and therefore uses a different bell housing.

However, you can use a NP 420 syncro transmission with the earlier bell housing. The NP 420 that was used in the M37 has a bolt pattern that is the same as the early ffPW. I just finished rebuilding a NP 420 trans from a 56 ffPW but I took a transmission case from a 62 M37 and put the guts from the 56 into it. I have measured the bolt patterns and it will go in. It is on my to do list for this weekend to put this NP 420 into my 51 ffPW using the original bell housing.

I do have a later style bell housing (NP 420) for the ffPW that I will be selling in the near future (possibly at Hollister).
