It's estimated that if all U.S. energy needs were coal based we would have around 300 years of capacity.

300 years is a lot of time to develop fusion, solar satellite/microwave or advanced nuclear, etc....

Back in the 70's the prediction was that we could never grow enough food to support a population of 3 billion. Current world population is twice that now and food production has kept pace.

As a species we are unlike anything that has come before and a comparision to previous lifeforms and their inevitable demise is not apt.

Human capability is still in it's infancy, the genetic revolution is just begining. The radical expansion of intelligence is underway. The singularity is likely nearer that we suspect.
