Roofing and flooring nails have the pointy end down. They are easy to tell apart from ceiling nails, which have the pointy end up.

It seems like each time I buy 50lbs. of roofing nails, I find all these ceiling nails mixed in, and end up throwing half of them away!?! ;*)
