MU-2 rebuild

Hello, my mu-2 was leaking so I bought a rebuild kit from VPW. The bottom seal is done but the top is a different story. I removed the worm gear and shaft but the top seal is sandwiched between a round drum and the worm gear. The drum has a set scew with square head which I loosened but it won't slide off the shaft. Is there a trick? I don't want to force it. Also the brake band inside the top housing had gear oil in it. Can I soak this in brake cleaner to clean it up or do I need a new band? Thanks
