In big-rig school they tell you during safety inspection to look for any sign of cracks OR WELDS on the rims. Unless you're a really good welder, and your welds can pass x-ray tests and all that kind of stuff, I would be very leery of welding the rims on a truck this heavy. Not that you'll be going over 20 mph when they fail, but still :)
