If I remember my Standard Oil Company history correctly, crude oil does not have paraffin in it any more than it has kerosene or gasoline in it. Gasoline, kerosene, paraffin, petrolatum, candle wax, white mineral oil, and a long list of other products are all a produced by the cracking process. Varying amounts of these products are created by how the crude is refined.

For instance, gasoline used to be no more than just undesirable junk left over after the companies produced as much wagon axle grease and kerosene as they could from the crude.
