That is a part of the beast. You really can not compare the PW to a new truck in terms of ride and noise. That is part of owning one. If you going to attack the sound issue, remember what you are trying to do is to stop the metal from ringing like a drum. For example rap on the panel just in front of the door with you knuckle. Now place a sound deadening pad to the inside of theis panel and rap again. No just think of the whole cab ringng like the first rap. Then think what it would be like with the whole cab lined. Some simple things that you can do to reduce the noise are:
1) Line the cab with a good sound deadening product as others suggested. I put 1/2" closed cell foam on my cab roof (camping sleeping pad cut to fit). It must be closed cell foam or it will absorb water.
2) Be sure to line all of the cab and do not forget the back wall and inside the the doors and the area behind the kick panels.
3) Line the door cover panels where you can.
4) Line the cowel area behind and above the dash.
5) Line the under side of all removable floor plates including the trans hump. A lot of noise comes from this area.
6) The best thing I did was to lay 7/16" thick rubber matting over the floor and under the seat. Be sure to cover all areas. This killed more sound than anything else I did. I can now drive without ear plugs just because of this. The matting I used is ground and fused tire rubber. It comes in sheets and is often used to line the floor of horse trailers to stop the horses from slipping and falling.
7) Make sure that the mufflers are not under the cab. They make a lot of noise. Move them under the bed and put a heat shield both around the muffler and on the bed directly above it. (Flowmaster makes some nice shields that strap on the muffler.
8) Obviously the firewall needs to be done.
