Seems it goes further. My father was a Flight Surgeon in the Navy in WWII. I also had 2 uncles who served and survived the war. One was an Army engineer and the other a Navy SeaBee. In checking our legacy I found we had a civil war ancestor who received the Medal of Honor. And a brother who served in the Marines.
The Medal of Honor winner gave up his horse to an officer whose horse was shot out from under him. He was later captured and sent to prison (South) and later escaped. We are certainly an adventurous clan.
