OK JOHN HIM SELF IS OLD IRON so to speak but i keep abreast of the industry, what i have is the back ground and the knowledge but the technology changes daily thats why i am out of the loop. allison automatic transmissions were pushing milage>when i took the course they took two trucks same weight same specs same drivers showed the automatic to be better (please dont throw the veggies yet)why be cause the program INSIDE the auto was consistant to shift constantly at the MAX fuel effiecent level of the power plant>ok enough about the tranny dont like them my self but major changes are on the horizon there trust me >back to milage, please dont take this personally the single most important factor in heavy truck milage is the driver if you are driving with intention of saving fuel you will or if your dead dog tired and running late you might just run the truck with your foot in into it>take speed for instance a broker would go mental doing the double nickle 55 all day so you opener up on the long strethces and then milage suffers > other factors tire pressure, types of tires engine lubes (syn) ect save >barometric pressure, in the mountains or high altitude theres less air and mileage suffers severly ,humidity ,head winds, tail winds, and another fuel factor is the actual quality of the fuel it self J
