I just did a SR-5 tranny, first time in 20 years. I downloaded a Jeep parts view, looked the same.

There is some monkey motion involved with the rev/5th rail and forks... such that the same rail moves rev but not 5th, then moves 5th without reverse.

Check your oil level? Maybe the monkeys need lube?

Does reverse shift well?

On each side, below the shift lever, there are big plugs with spring plungers/limiters in them. Are the plus loose, allowing the shift lever to move too far, letting it move out of the slot in the shift rail?- is the lever springy when moving out of the neutral position to 1/2 and 5/reverse?

Then, I believe you can pull the rear housing while the tranny is in the truck. Transfer case has to come out too...
