So life has become worse in the past 30 years?

So that means your refering to 1978, lets just say the 70's.
-Gas Rationing
-Rampant inflation
-watergate
-Jimmy Carter
-mortgages in the double digits
-American cars that fell apart in 1000 miles with virtually no warranty.

So maybe your refering to the 60's...
-War in Viet Nam
-Civil strife in america hippies vs. everyone

So maybe its the 50's...
-McCarthyism
-J. Edgar Hoover wiretaping at will

Ok, the 80's then...
-subsidized farming and shipping of grain overseas

How about the 40's..
-WWII
-How about the beginning of the decade when the US military was behind the times by 20 years.

Then there is the 30's...
-the depression that we only came out of due to the war
-the dustbowl
-Hooverville's

Point being that every decade in America has its ups and downs. Some decades have wars of varying magnitude, some do not. Some have gross inflation, some do not. If it weren't for the imported car phenominom of the 70's, the American Auto industry would have self imploded because of the lack of competition and their severe lack of customer response.

Our history repeats itself. A decade of properity, followed by a correction. The 20's were followed by the 30's. The 90's and early 2000 were followed by now.

So lets not say that 30 years ago things were so much better. You were just younger. Perhaps there were things that existed then that dont now, like a workforce that knew how to work with their hands.

Its just not fair for these older gentlemen to paint a rosey picture of how much better it was back then, in this case the 70's, when that is not necessarily the case. Don't skew todays youth to think they live in a bad time and have no real future. If you want to complain about something, you better have a solution to it. In your case, you have a great amount of knowledge about mechanics so find a group of 5 or 6 kids and teach them. Who knows, with you or anyone else here as their mentor, they could go on to great things. Dont just complain. America has always had great people that were willing to protect their country, its values, but also it had those people that saw the value in imparting their knowledge and values upon the next generation. That is what makes America great.

If you really think the 70's were that much better, go ahead and publish a picture of yourself in your baby blue liesure suit with your large hair and gold chains, drivin your green AMC gremlin... Now, you know I'm only kidding here...I'm sure the liesure suit was actually navy blue...
