gauge cluster question

I'm changing to 12v and rewiring a '53 FFPW. Got a 12v gauge cluster to substitute for stock 6v unit. First noticed temp gauge was mechanical in 6v, electric in 12 v. Faces of gauges have slight differences, no big deal. The question is, since I can remove the mechanical temp gauge from the 6v cluster from the back, should I place it into the 12v cluster or just go get a 12v temp sending unit? I could go either way. (is there any advantage/disadvantage?)
