I work for AA at LAX in L.A. but a few years ago I was in Chicago when a Boeing 767 was taking off and hit a flock of geese, the result was a lost # 1 (left) engine. Upon inspection the geese had destroyed the fan sending parts into and through the engine nacel and nose cowl. Big birds are destructive when hit at speed.
