Last October as some of you might remember my 22 year old niece was killed in a plane crash in Minnesota. She was the flight instructor on the plane. They were flying at night from Minneapolis to Fargo. She was an instructor for University of North Dakota.
Last week the University announced the apparent cause of the crash. Apparently they flew in to a flock of Canadian geese. It was after 10:30 at night and they did not see them.
The plane was a proper altitude and flying fine. It then went out of control and hit the ground 26 seconds later. There was one hit to the left wing and one to the tail. There were a lot of other small dents but they could not identify their source. They apparently found pieces of goose in the left wing and tail.
The plane obviously had a black box. Hopefully it did not have a voice recorder as I would never want to hear the last 26 seconds.
There were no signs of mechanical failure or pilot error.
