Hi Brian, I’ll switch over to this forum for this question. Sounds like the clutch is not engaging. Even with a cobbled up gear you should grab something if your clutch was engaged. Make an index mark on the top of the clutch shaft so that you can see if it turns as you attempt to engage the clutch. Rock your drum back and forth with your hand as you attempt to engage. If the shaft rotates with the handle you should feel it engage. Moisture and dirt get in at the top of the shaft under the handle and a lot of corrosion develops on the shaft and will lock it up. Every winch that I have taken apart has had this shaft badly rusted. I’ll look around and see if I have a part or two laying around. No promise. Hope I have been of some help....Jackson
