You have two choices:

1) Get a bonded title, in which case you have to purchase a bond in favor of any rightful owner of the vehicle who may bring a claim against the state in the future. It is a real title in the sense that you own the truck and always will and you can sell it freely. All a "rightful" owner can do about the situation is claim the bond. Probelm is that the bonds cost a bit, although you will be surprised at the differences if you shop around a bit.

2) Use a "title service" such as Broadway Title to obtain a clear title from wherever it is that they lander their vehicles (Alabama, I think). They charge about $100 or so and you get a title that you can take to your MVD. I think that they have a website, you can always find them in Hemmings under "Services, Criminal" or whatever. I have used Broadway in the past and they work as advertised, they are not the cheapest, but they are reputed to be reliable.
