Mine was the same way when I got it. There is an
oil gallery which runs the length of the engine on
the driver's side just above where the dipstick
enters. There's also a plugged hole right near the
dipstick. I connected to the hole near the dipstick
(or maybe it's near the oil filler/vent tube) and to
the hole at the front of the engine kind of behind
the generator. I'm writing this from memory so I
hope it's right. The 230 only filters part of the oil
so with the filter removed and the holes plugged like
our trucks were, the engine still gets oiled. I made
a bracket for the spin-on adapter which attaches to
the holes on the side of the engine where the cannister
would have attached if I'd had one.

People had tried to explain to me via email which holes
to use and I just couldn't understand it until I found
an old Plymouth with a 230 in a used car dealer's
showroom here and I took a very close look at how the
filter was hooked up. The confusing part is that there
are about 4 holes on that side of the engine with
1/8 NPT plugs in them which all have oil on the other
side.
