After 22 years of driving used vehicles, I am considering purchasing what would be my first new vehicle, a 2001 Dodge Ram Diesel pickup truck.
I am looking at a crew cab, 4x4, manual trans, 3:55 rear gears, A/C, and a few other little items like trailer hitch, 265/75/16 tires, sliding rear window, ( I don't need or want lots of extras!!).

For those who own these modern Dodge diesels, what do you think of them?
-What is the MPG rating?
-The salesman mentioned that the trans problems are solved for the Automatics. Is that true?
-He listed as optional equipment, auto spin or limited slip. I thought that would be standard on a 4X4.
-I would like to use it to tow my 53 PW on a trailer. How well does it pull?
Any other info would be greatly appriciated.
Here are some of the costs:
2500 Ram crewcab, 4X4, 8' bed ...........26,470
Manual trans.................................00
Diesel 5.9 Cummins.........................4625
A/c.........................................805
Auto spin(limited slip)?????????????????????285
265/75/16...................................140
Hitch, electrical...........................275
Sliding rear window.........................140
Mirrors/lights..............................135
Total....................................32,975

When I told him I wanted it at 28,000 he said no way-
He is down to 29,000 and called in a manager to see if 28,000 was possible. It appears to be possible.
Any thoughts on these prices?
Thanks in advance, Mark
