Drew
When you drop the pan you'll be glad that you've been using ND oil, you should have about 3/4" of sludge there. If you go the "The Best of the PW forum" (top of the page) you can read the (long) oil debate Alan Bowes & I had over Det & ND oil. I ran ND oil in my rebuilt 230 for the first 1000 miles ( ND oil gives better lubrication then Det oil) and then switched to detergent oil to keep it clean. Remember the 230 uses a bypass oil filtering system so the oil doesn't get filtered before it goes through the bearings, Det oil will hold residule in suspension, ND lets it fall out to the bottom of the pan where the 230's floating oil pickup strainer won't pick it up ( in theory ). Since your cleaning the pan and then going to Det oil should work as to the pan being the dirtiest part of the engine (from years of ND use). Just my 2 cents worth
Best regards
