Yes I have seen people make later style fenders work on Series 1 beds. They usually use a hammer to straighten out the inner lip. It is usually done very poorly and looks like trash. The inner lip where the fender mounts to the bed is where the diffrence is. On later series beds this lip is bent at 90 degrees to allow mounting to the bed. The mounting bolts are parallel to the axle. On the earlier fenders the lip is not bent and the mounting bolts are in a radial pattern and are at 90 degrees to the axle. I do not remember if the inner lip on the old and new style fenders are of similar shape.
